Angela Barbi, Spain

Angela Barbi was born in Girona (Spain) where she lives at present. She also lived in The Netherlands for three years as a child, and has travelled extensively.

From a very young age she started drawing and painting, later on she received tuition in classical drawing and expressionistic painting, especially she trained in colour therapy following the anthroposophical school of Rudolf Steiner and Beppe Assenza according to the Goethe theory of colour. She has also followed training with some Spanish and International painters for several years.

For over 30 years she was an English teacher at a secondary school, combining painting with her teaching tasks. During that time she was appointed as the international coordinator of the EWE Project (European Work Experience Exchange) between Spain and Great Britain, for 6 years, an activity that involved groups of young adults from Stockport (Manchester) and Catalonia.

AT PRESENT

In 2005 she stopped teaching and since then she started and still manages her own business EPC ART COURSES (Enjoy Painting Catalonia) that organizes painting holidays in Spain and other countries, tutored by several of the best renown watercolor masters in the world, making it unique in its category.

She was the founder of IWS Spain in 2014 and now she has her own IWS institution, IWS GIRONA WATERCOLOUR. Nowadays she continues to collaborate with the other IWS delegations worldwide to build strong lasting bonds with other countries through the art of watercolor.

She’s the member of a number of art societies and she has been a juror for the IWS International contests (2013, 2014, 2015), IWS England and Russia and England country selection for their Fabriano group. In 2022 she was a juror for the INTERNATIONAL WATERCOLOUR MASTERS IWM 2022 big exhibition in England, for Kipus Bolivia and the SDWS Triennial in San Diego, California.

In 2021 she became a new leader for the 2022 Fabriano-in-Acquarello for Spain. She was also appointed as a Brand Ambassador for DANIEL SMITH, the prestigious brand of pigments for oil and watercolour from US, and their Global Community Liaison to coordinate the relationship with artists all over the globe.


EXHIBITIONS 

She has exhibited in several collective and individual exhibitions in Spain (Barcelona and Caudete), Greece, Peru, Serbia, Switzerland, France, Turkey, Slovenia, Italy, Indonesia, Pakistan, Albania, Bulgaria, Mexico, Portugal, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Nepal, Vietnam, Finland, Mexico, US and China. 

RECOGNITIONS

She has a Master’s award by IWS India 2017, India.

She has the 2 consecutive awards (Hardship Award, Excellence Award) in IWS Pearls of Peace 2018 & 2020, Pakistan.

She is a guest artist at the prestigious WMW 2021 (World of Modern Watercolor international Exhibition), Moscow

She is a guest artist at the JIWI 2021(Japanese International Watercolour Institute), Tokyo. 

She is the finalist of the III Step by Step – (International Foundation of Contemporary Watercolor Art) International Competition. 

Her works have been selected at:

the National Watercolour Society NWS small format exchange with China in 2015, and their 2021 International Members Exhibition in San Diego. I

the Society of Watercolor Artists SWA - 2021 International Juried Exhibition, Texas, 

the 2021 Member’s Exhibition of the Nort West Watercolour Society NWWS in Seattle, Washington.


GUEST ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

She was a guest artist for the Vizart International Festival 2016, Albania

Recently she has been invited as a guest artist in two Portugal International watercolour residencies, the XI Incontro de Aguarelas Santa Cruz and III Incontro Internacional de Aguarelas en Montemor-o-Novo in 2019 

Invited guest artist at the Kama Ghani Festival in Kota, India in January 2020. 

Invited guest artist at the IX Biennale Internationale d’Aquarelle de Rochemaure, France.

Invited guest artist at the Bourbon in Acquerello 2020 residency, France. It will now take place in 2023.
