I have been practicing watercolor for 20 years but I continue to be fascinated and amazed by this rich and surprising medium.  I don’t favor any theme, or any technique, wet on dry or wet on wet, intense or pastel colors, texture or granulation effects, from figurative to abstract, everything is a pretext to transmit an emotion, a thrill, a reaction.  I do not exhibit my work very much currently but I like to transmit my passion for watercolor by giving some courses.  These are also an opportunity to challenge myself and address different topics.

Art is my third career. I was a journalist for nine years and an American diplomat for 35. As a reporter, I covered revolution in Lisbon, civil war in Beirut, and political and economic change in the Arab world. As a diplomat, I served in 11 overseas posts throughout Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. These postings included service as U.S. Ambassador to Greece and U.S. Ambassador to Algeria. Travel nourished a lifetime habit of drawing and sketching. In Algiers in 2009 I began a course of self-study in drawing, perspective, and color. That led to watercolors. I loved the translucent quality of the medium and the constant challenge of turning sudden developments into opportunity.  My paintings are interpretations, seldom literal representations, and tend to the semi-abstract. After leaving the Foreign Service I established David D Pearce Fine Art and created a web site (www.daviddpearce.com) to exhibit work. My work has now made its way to private collections in...

Chauveau Jocelyne, France

Εικόνα
French watercolour painter and designer, Jocelyne Chauveau works and lives in Paris. She presents a diversified work because it is all forms of life that interest her, and Nature is for her an inexhaustible source of inspiration : “I never wondered if I should paint figuratively or abstractly, because abstraction is everywhere in Nature, it constitutes the substrate for my work as a painter, from the infinitely small to the infinitely large, between concrete and abstract, recognizable and unrecognizable, visible and invisible. All subjects interest me, the living and the inanimate.” Whether the starting point is imaginary or given to see, the technique of watercolor has fascinated her with its suggestive power, “a kind of concentration between the idea and the gesture, between the concept and the form she gives to it”. She studied classical drawing and obtained a master's degree in art history at Paris Sorbonne, followed by a professional literary career, and she started the practi...

A lover of drawing, I discovered watercolor in 1990 and I gradually developped a passion for the colors’game and the freedom with which the water disperses pigments and creates unexpected effects.  I'm looking mostly for atmospheres, highlighted in the first stage of creation, then, I give rise to the light in its full force by opposition with contrasts.  I worked with the Belgian-Canadian master Roland  Palmaerts, who appointed me Maître PALM'ARTS in May 2010.  Regularly selected for international events, I have been chosen as a signature member for Société Canadienne de l’aquarelle SCA and for 2 watercolor Societies of the USA. I  was also 6 years long  president  of  the association Aquarelle Reims Evénement that works to promote watercolor by regular international exhibitions in REIMS, chief town of CHAMPAGNE.

Daven Anderson, USA

Daven, A US Naval Academy graduate with an MBA from the University of Chicago, a nuclear engineer and submariner with thirty-five years running companies, came late to a full-time art career.  It had been a very occasionally used talent during his naval and business life.  In 2010 it became his passion.  He is self-taught having followed a path of very occasional workshops and much trial and error.  He has painted in all mediums but now works exclusively in oil and watercolor and in a wide range of subject matter.   A long time Chicagoan, Daven moved to St. Louis’ in 2006 and then in 2008 to the city’s historical Lafayette Square neighborhood where he established his studio in the Square’s over 130 year old former blacksmith shop.  Although primarily a studio painter, Daven travels widely, in the US and around the world, capturing subject matter.  Daven is a representational artist and teacher.  He has taught art at the University of Missouri, in...

Throughout my upbringing, there have been pencils, brushes, paint, paper and artist materials around me.  My mother was a glass designer so there was no doubt that I could draw as much as I wanted at an early age. In parallel with technical education and later in working life, I have always had sketching as a watering hole.  Over the years, it has become everything from motif-painted trucks to fashion ties, advertisements and logos.  But somehow watercolor has always fascinated me. This medium is considered difficult to control and I decided to explore the mysterious essence of watercolor.  I looked for the artists I thought were the best in the world and went to them to learn. I got a real kick and have forever stuck to the fantastic peculiarities of watercolor.  For every painting I do, I still learn something new. Love it!
